Is it worth transferring?

Westpac Altitude Rewards transfers to Air New Zealand Koru at 300:1, so factor the conversion in when you compare it against other ways to use your points. There's no transfer bonus on this pair at the moment — if you're not in a hurry, it can pay to wait for one.

The golden rule with any points transfer: only do it once you've found award space you can actually book. Transfers are one-way and can take time to land, so converting speculatively risks stranding your points in a program where you can't use them. Search availability first, hold the seat if the program lets you, then transfer the exact amount you need.

American Express Membership Rewards can preserve a choice of redemption partners, but the value depends on your Australian card and rewards edition. Do not import a US transfer table or assume every Amex card earns transferable Membership Rewards.

New Zealand on points: the trans-Tasman playbook

For New Zealand, begin with the destination that fits your holiday: Auckland (AKL), Wellington (WLG), Christchurch (CHC) and Queenstown (ZQN) are different trips. A cheap arrival in the wrong island can add a flight, rental-car complications and lost time.

Airline alliances explained for points: oneworld, Star Alliance & SkyTeam

An airline alliance is a network of participating airlines. It can support earning, reward bookings and status benefits across members, but each of those relationships has its own conditions. Alliance membership does not mean all seats, fares or lounges are available to every member.
