All guidesPoints 101: how to start earning points in Australia
Points are useful when they help pay for a trip you want, at a total cost you can accept. Start with a trip and a cash budget, then choose how to earn. You do not need a credit card, elite status or a large balance to learn the process.
How to find award seat availability (the skill that matters most)
Search for the complete trip your party can actually take. A chart price, an airline timetable and a cached award result answer different questions. None is a substitute for the issuing program's final booking screen.
Points for families: pooling, kids and award travel with four seats
Start by searching for the whole travelling party. Four balances do not guarantee four seats, and four passengers do not always have identical award pricing. Enter the actual adults, children and infants when requesting an airline quote.
Upgrading with points: when it beats booking an award outright
Buy a fare you are willing to fly in if the upgrade fails. An upgrade request is not a confirmed premium-cabin booking. Check the specific fare, operating flight and upgrade product before paying more for an “upgradeable” ticket.
