Qantas Classic Flight Reward sweet spots from Australia
Last updated
Qantas Classic Flight Rewards are priced on a fixed distance-zone chart (one-way points, by zone and cabin), which makes them one of the most plannable redemptions available to Australian flyers. Here's where they shine. All figures below come from the chart effective for bookings from 5 August 2025 — see the exact numbers on each award flights route page.
Why Classic (not Classic Plus)
Classic Flight Rewards use the fixed chart — an exact, publishable number. Classic Plus is dynamically priced and generally less compelling value. If you're optimising, target Classic. (We explain the difference in fixed vs dynamic pricing.)
Where the value concentrates
- Premium cabins, long-haul. The gap between a cash business or first fare and the fixed points price is widest on long routes. Australia to North America or Europe in business is the headline sweet spot — the points cost is fixed even when cash fares are brutal.
- Short hops in economy. The lowest zones are cheap in points and great for positioning or domestic legs.
How to read the zones
The chart bands by one-way distance (Zone 1 is shortest, Zone 10 the longest). A few Australian anchors:
- Trans-Pacific (e.g. Sydney/Melbourne → Los Angeles) lands in the upper-distance zones.
- To London is the top zone (one of the longest one-way distances in the chart).
- To Singapore / Bali sits in the mid zones.

Tips
- Book one-way. Qantas prices Classic Rewards one-way, so you can mix programs or cabins per leg.
- Watch availability, not just price. A great chart price only helps if a Classic seat is open.
- Mind the carrier charges. The points number excludes taxes, fees and carrier charges — factor those into your cents-per-point maths.
