Build the trip before consolidating points
Write down the outbound and return separately: flights, airports, cabins, points, cash fees and the people on each booking. Our trip planner keeps separate directional targets and multiplies the entered seat price by the passenger count. If a child or infant has a different quote, calculate that separately rather than treating the multiplier as a fare rule.
Example: two adults have outbound targets of 40,000 points each and return targets of 50,000 each. The total is 180,000—not 160,000 obtained by doubling the outbound. These are illustrative targets, not a published fare. Add the actual child quotes and taxes before deciding how much to transfer.
Velocity household pooling
A qualifying pool can contain up to six people at the same address: no more than two adults and four children. Set it up before the relevant new points or Status Credits are earned. Existing points transfers and future pooling are separate actions. Velocity’s family rules.

Qantas family transfers
Qantas provides manual transfers between eligible family members. Check the current transfer minimum, eligible relationship and account details on the official transfer page, rather than relying on an old annual-limit summary. The transfer itself does not prevent expiry. Qantas Family Transfers.
Before transferring, confirm who will make the booking and whether that account can book for everyone. Do not combine unlike currencies: bank points, Qantas Points and Velocity Points cannot simply be added together. The balance explorer tests each recorded currency separately.

These are search options, not promises of better availability. Avoid buying the first two seats unless you are comfortable with the possibility that the remaining seats never appear.
Final family booking check
Check passenger names against travel documents, child ages on each travel date, infant arrangements, baggage, seat assignment and cancellation terms. Confirm any assistance directly with the airline. Save every ticket number and booking confirmation privately, then compare the total cash outlay with a suitable paid itinerary using the trip-value tool.
